The Help a Child Initiative is a program started by Frank Ciarleglio, the instructor at the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts, to help children with life threatening diseases. "Our program is designed to collect item such as arts and crafts and general items needed to assist The Tommy Fund for Childhood Cancer and the Child Life Specialist-Pediatric Specialty Clinic at the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital," said Ciarleglio. CVS generously donated a truckload of items to the Help a Child Initiative. These arts and crafts, as well as the games, toys and other items CVS has donated help to bring a little bit of normalcy to the children's lives. "It is very difficult when anyone is dealing with a life-threatening illness, but much more so to see children going through it," said Ciarleglio. "Being a parent of a child undergoing treatments, I see firsthand how the items we collect affect the children and their parents. The smiles and laughs that are seen and heard in the clinic as the children do their crafts (which are 100 percent donated items) brings joy to everyone hearts." The Academy has a list of items they are collecting as well as a wish list from the Child Life Specialist-Pediatric Specialty Clinic on its web site, www.academyofkempo.com. "I know that in these economically challenging times that it is hard for people to find anything extra in their budget, but even one item will help to make a difference," Ciarleglio said. All products can be dropped off at the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts, located at 1890 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, Connecticut 06514. For more information on how to get involved, you can contact the Academy at (203) 288-9990, or visit them on the web at www.academyofkempo.com. Monetary contributions are welcome in check form made out to the Tommy Fund or by visiting the Tommy Fund web site at www.tommyfund.org. |
