Cadette
Girl Scout Troop Supports the Academy of Kempo Food Drive
Hamden: On December 10, the young women of Cadette Girl Scout Troop 60918 of Hamden lead by Sherri Sosensky dropped off 40 non-perishable food items to the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts. The Academy is hosting their annual food drive to benefit some of the less fortunate that live in the Hamden area through the Saint Ann’s Soup Kitchen and the Keefe Centers Food Bank.
The Troop also participated in a special Martial Arts class specifically designed to help the Troop complete the requirements for their sports badge. The class covered the history and lineage of Kempo Martial Arts, practical safety, the connection of the mind and body and how it applies to the Martial Arts and everyday life. The troop learned some basic punches and kick as well as the theories of how to use them in a self-defense situation.
The Academy of Kempo Martial Arts is accepting donations now through the end of the holiday season, at 1890 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden Connecticut, 06514. The Academy is offering its students a free semi-private lesson for any five or more non-perishable items they donate and offering two weeks of free lessons to non-students (limited to one give away per person and cannot be combined).
For more information on how you can get involved with the
Academy’s food drive, call 203 288-9990 or visit them on the web at
