Determination and Perseverance Leads to Success!

Pictured (L-R) Matthew Tomlin and Jonandrew Ochoa.
On January 9, 2010, Matthew Tomlin and Jonandrew Ochoa earned
their Junior Black Belts from the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts in Hamden. “To
become a Junior Black Belt takes determination and perseverance,” said Shihan
Frank Ciarleglio, a 5th Degree Black Belt and Instructor at the Academy.
“Matthew and Jonandrew have dedicated many years of their lives to their martial
arts lessons; some of those lessons were smooth going and others were difficult.
The difficult lessons really help an individual build into a strong person. By
facing the difficulty head on instead of avoiding it will give you the tools to
succeed in life”, said Ciarleglio. The Academy teaches the martial arts in such
a way that it builds a person both on a physical and mental level, which helps
them to overcome adversity. The emphasis is on “if you can conceive it, you can
achieve it”. “With the proper training of body and mind, the students learn that
if they set their mind to something it is possible to obtain it. It is all part
of the equation of success, energy applied to the correct things will bring you
success”, said Ciarleglio.
The Academy of Kempo is very proud of Matthew and Jonandrew
for their accomplishments, and as they returned to their classes, they and their
classmates all shared in the accomplishment, as to say we did this together. “It
takes a team of people helping each other, building each other or picking each
other up to succeed in life. It’s a great feeling for everyone involved knowing
that one persons success is everyone’s success”, said Ciarleglio.
The philosophies taught at the Academy help to provide the
tools necessary for an individual to become an intricate part of the community.
