Kempo Martial Arts Food Drive
Making a Difference in the Community

Pictured: Carrie Meyer Black Belt - Assistant Instructor at the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts, and the Barron Gannon & Co. representative instilling the important values of community service to her daughter Bo. Community service is one of the many life lessons that are taught at the Academy.
Hamden:
Thanksgiving has passed and Saint Ann’s Soup Kitchen as well as the Keefe
Center’s Food Bank has survived, thanks to the many who have donated food.
But, the endeavor is not over yet. With the peak of the holiday season upon us
there is still much to do.
The Academy of Kempo Martial Arts is accepting donations now through the end of
the holiday season at any one of their donation centers located throughout
Connecticut.
The Academy is offering an incentive to its students: a free semi-private lesson
for any five non-perishable items they donate, and offering two weeks of free
lessons to non-students, limited to one give away per person and can not be
combined.
On Wednesday, November 21, 2007
the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts in Hamden dropped off their second load of
food. The students, families and friends of the Academy generously donated about
50 more bags of non-perishable food. The Academy has donated about 75 bags of
non-perishable food to date and continues to collect on a weekly basis. The
Academy thanks all the people who have helped and who continue to support this
food drive. A special thanks to Barron
Gannon & Co., P.C., of
Fairfield for their purchase of 40 bags of food and the Salvation Army in New
Haven for their donation of turkeys, pies, potatoes and non-perishables.
The Academy of Kempo Martial Arts located at 1890 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden is the
main donation center. The other
donation centers are, Barron Gannon & Co., P.C.,
1275 Post Road, Suite 200A,
Fairfield, Cooperative
Arts and Humanities Magnet High School,
444 Orange Street,
New Haven,
the Boys and Girls Club of
Hartford Southwest Unit, 1 Chandler Street, Hartford, and Rascals Gym, 1647
Whitney Avenue, Hamden. The Academy would like to thank the donation centers
listed above, the Quad Town Advisor, Allegra Print in New Haven, Chris
Bamgboye’s State Farm Insurance in Hamden and Jackie Matchett Personnel -
Division of Bill May Staffing in Hamden for their sponsorship.
