A--Matthew Tomlin, 11, and Jonandrew Ochoa, 14, both of Hamden, earned their junior black belts Jan. 9 from the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts in Hamden.

Matthew, a sixth-grader at Dunbar Hill School, has been training for seven years. He is the son of Craig and Mary Tomlin. Jonandrew, a freshman at New Haven Academy, has been training for eight years. He is the son of Ada and Leo'n Ochoa.
