On November 12, 2008, students from the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts in Hamden earned their new ranks. There were children and junior adults from Hamden, New Haven and Woodbridge in the belt promotion. The test administrator, Grandmaster Brian Hanson, Ninth Degree Black Belt and the students’ instructor Shihan Frank Ciarleglio, Fifth Degree Black Belt viewed the students’ Martial Arts material. “Every rank is a very important step for our students; it teaches them how to set goals and how to achieve them. This sense of achievement helps our students to set new goals and accomplish them, too. Each accomplishment the students make adds to their self esteem and to their self confidence”, Ciarleglio said.
At the Academy of Kempo the Martial Arts is a mind and body experience. Along with the Martial Arts program at the Academy, there is also a character development program. “Of course the Martial Arts teaches self defense, and each rank indicates a higher degree of knowledge in this area, and when some people think of Martial Arts that is all they think about. In our character development portion of the classes, we teach our students how to use the philosophies of the Martial Arts in everyday situations, which teaches them the art of success”, Ciarleglio said.
The Academy of
Kempo Martial Arts would like to congratulate these students for their
achievements. Adult Ranks (junior adults): Yellow Belts – Maya Caicedo, Erik
Holmquist and Antonio Rodriguez. Junior Ranks (four years old thru ten years
old): Junior Yellow Belt - Gabriel R. Ciarleglio, Junior Orange Belt - Gary M.
Avery II, and Junior Green Stripe Belt – Kevin Antoine, Ziael Aponte, Emily
Maranets, Theodore Maranets and Leonard A. Stevenson. For more information on
