Hamden: On May 12, 2010,
students from the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts in Hamden received their new
ranks.
There were children, and junior adults and from Hamden, Cheshire, and Woodbridge
in the belt promotion.
Shihan (Master) Frank Ciarleglio a Fifth Degree Black Belt Instructor and Test
Administrator worked with the students and evaluated their performance. “The
students at the Academy are trained to handle themselves in many types of
situations, whether it requires them to use respect, self-control or
self-discipline, whether it is a physical or a verbal confrontation. Our testing
process is designed to evaluate their knowledge both on a physical and mental
level,” explained Ciarleglio.
There were three levels of evaluations at this test, Beginners, intermediate and
advanced. Within each of the proficiency levels, the children had to demonstrate
their techniques and concepts of their techniques, and understanding of how to
defend themselves in a free style of fighting which mimics a real fight, an
improved understanding of the rules of the Academy and what it means to be an
Academy of Kempo Martial Artist. “It's not all about the kicks and punches at
the Academy; it’s also a character development program for the children. Our
instructors train to become a team member with our student’s families to help
these children to become the best they can be. Becoming the best you can be is
an important concept for our younger generation to understand and strive for,
these children are the future of our country”, Ciarleglio said. “The majority of
our students excel in their school activities and their extracurricular
actives,” Ciarleglio continued.
Shihan Frank Ciarleglio is very proud to announce the successful promotion of
these students from the Academy of Kempo; Ivan Larzaro and Francine Corpus
